Junk food are defined as processed foods with very low nutritional value that contributes lots of calories and are often high in kilojoules, in salt, sugar and saturated fats. They are also known as discretionary choices.
Generally people use the term junk food to define a food that has few of the very few nutrients that your body needs, and excess of added sugars and salts, spices and fats which your body can easily get too much of.
What does junk food include?
Most junk food falls into the categories of either snack food or fast food. And then there are things like breakfast cereals. They seem simple enough, but some of them could definitely be considered junk food, as they mostly contain sugar or high-fructose corn syrup and white flour or milled corn. Popular snack foods are usually commercially prepared and packaged, like chips, cheese puffs, candy bars, snack cakes.
Foods commonly considered junk foods include salted snack foods, gums, candy, sweet desserts, fried fast food, pizza, fried fast foods, sugary carbonated beverages, hamburgers.
How often times can we eat junk food?
Junk foods are not required as part of any diet.
⮞If you are trying to lose weight, you will be more successful if you limit junk food.
⮞If you are a healthy weight person , try to eat junk foods occasionally and in less amounts.
Side Effects of Junk food:
Junk foods are not a necessary part of any diet. Ingredients of the junk foods give a good taste, makes people addictive, and pose many health hazards. Eating too much junk food on a regular basis can lead to an increased risk of obesity, loss of appetite, rises blood sugar levels, affects fertility, digestive issues, depression, chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, type 2 diabetes and increases cancer risk.
We know that Australian's eat too much junk food.

⮞35% of adults' daily energy intake (kilojoules) comes from junk food.
This means that junk food is taking the place of other nutritious foods in our diet.
How to avoid eating junk food?

⮚Focus on adding healthy foods
⮚Consume protein-rich foods
⮚Eat healthy fats
⮚Intake of diet rich in fruits and vegetables
⮚Work on stress management
⮚Get enough sleep
